When Tanner Kibble Denton Architects (TKDA) took on the renovation and extension of an existing, heritage house located in Mosman on Sydney’s North Shore, they set out to create a spacious and contemporary family home whilst preserving the majestic charm of it’s original structure.
Specialising in heritage building, TKD Architects together with Yuncken Construction, superbly brought old and new together, giving a contemporary flair to an existing, historic residence.
The result was a stylish mix of old and new, with an open floor plan and interiors that assert a mix of soft natural timber and textural stone. The space is kept exciting with white walls and contrasting black borders, accentuating the modern design.
mafi flooring was specified in Oak Clear Brushed White Oil, thoughtfully selected by TKD Architects for its contemporary appearance. The absence of knots and crack lines in mafi Oak Clear floorboards provide a cool and clean appearance, which is further enhanced by a white oil finish.
The timber flooring extends from the living room, to the kitchen and down into the wine cellar. Two sets of mafi pre-fabricated stairs were installed over three levels by our own mafi installers.
The new family home, which was completed just in time for Christmas is an entertainment oasis in summer with plenty of natural light, and transitions into a cosy winter hub. The mafi floor is installed over underfloor heating, so the family can welcome the cooler, winter months for many years to come.

Beautiful Italian Pellegrino sandstone supplied by Homestone, surrounds the pool and courtyard area, where a majestic fig tree takes centre stage. Sandstone is wrapped around the house, keeping with the traditional charm of the beautiful, heritage building.
