Two Roads Farm | Master Builders 2016 Award Winner

A farm lovingly restored from century old photos is the winner of the 2016 Master Builders Sunshine Coast House of the Year Award. A big congratulations to Mosaic Construction on their Two Roads Farm that now consists of a modern rural home as the final stage of an overall plan on 175 acres.

Located in the hills behind Maleny, the warm and comfortable family residence was considered by Judges as a stunning piece of architecture. The high level of detail required within the time-frame saw everyone involved thrilled by the outcome.

Two Roads home is designed for easy living, where “everyone can find their own space when needed”, say the owners “it’s a beautiful place to live for a family.” Connected and separated by simple axis, the pavilion style living areas serve to create circulation zones that flow into various spaces for flexible living throughout the day and into the different seasons.

Challenging the architect Matt Cooper of Aspect Architecture, Mosaic Property Group’s Interior Designer Margie Sullivan & the owners was the connection between creating a modern and innovative home that heavily incorporated the honest elements of a working farm. In order to stand the test of time, strong effective materials were chosen to reflect the clients connection to the place and the property.

With a strong focus on sustainability, the materials selected needed to be timeless and functional to ensure that they would adapt to the families growing needs.

Mafi natural wood floorboards in Oak Character Brushed 1x White 1x Natural Oil 240mm wide were chosen for the living, dining, lounge, library and rumpus areas. Mafi Oak boasts incredible strength and durability due to the natural oil finish and three layer solid construction.

Above all, the property is a working farm where the family breed cattle and quarter horses. The carefully planned property includes cabins, sheds and workshops, manager’s residence, a horse arena and cattle yards. The house blends into its surroundings with smooth transitioning between the indoor and outdoor areas to take full advantage of panoramic views of the Curramore Ranges.
